Is this type of program effective?

UPLIFT is an opportunity to build a partnership between families and Colleton County School District to help our students succeed in school and in life.  It is important to understand why this partnership is so essential.

Research shows that when family members are involved in the education process, students achieve more, regardless of their economic status, race/ethnicity or parent’s education level.   When families become involved students earn higher grades and higher test scores, have higher graduation rates and mare more likely to enroll in post-secondary education.  Students with active families also tend to display a more positive attitude towards school and behave better both in school and at home. Studies also show that schools that work well with families have improved teacher morale and higher satisfaction from the community.

When families see the importance of being a partner in education and feel welcome and appreciated, they will become involved.  In Colleton County, parents have expressed the need to receive specific information on how to help and what to do to help.  Teachers in the district have expressed concern and have shown interest in collaborating with families of their students.  UPLIFT provides the opportunity for teachers, families and the community to come together and to learn together.
